Holiday Shopping Tips to Support Your Favorite Cause

The holiday season is officially underway, and the shopping has begun. “Cyber” shopping is the latest buzz on recent news, and it’s expected that we’ll see an increase in the amount of holiday purchases made over the web and mobile devices. Many of us now do the majority of our shopping without even physically going into a store.

This is also the time of year when many of us make donations to our favorite causes. Charities that help and support animals (as well as humans) need continuous support, so they in turn can provide their services to those in need.

If you plan to do your holiday shopping online this year, you can also help your favorite cause without spending any extra money. How?

Through iGive, an “online shopping mall where a portion of each purchase is donated to your favorite cause.” There is no hidden agenda here – no sign up costs, no hidden increases in pricing, and no obligations either. Once you register, you can access over 1,000 of the most popular stores, like Target, Home Depot, Macy’s, Amazon, and Bed Bath and Beyond. You can also book your holiday travel plans through Expedia or Orbitz. Even gift cards count. It’s extremely easy and simple – once you log in and go to a store, the shopping experience is no different.

Here are a few other great holiday shopping tips  and ideas when searching or purchasing through the web.

GoodSearch is a search engine which donates half of its sponsored search revenue to the charities of your choice. It’s powered by Yahoo! and works the same as any other search engine. GoodSearch donates a penny for every web search. That doesn’t sound like a lot, but you’d be amazed how quickly those pennies add up.

GoodShop is an online shopping mall (similar to iGive above). GoodShop also has many of the popular stores, and each purchase made through GoodShop mall results in a donation for your charity. The average donation is about 3% of your purchase, but depending on the store it can be as high as 20% or even more.

GoodDining is a dine out for charity program. Through this nationwide program, you can dine in or purchase take-out at over 10,000 restaurants.  You can earn up to 6% of donations to go toward your designated charity.
